The 1989 NSR250R (MC18 R5k) went on sale in February 1989 with revised bodywork, new rear suspension, wider tyres and an updated PGM-II intake and ignition system. From this year all NSR250s were also speed-limited for the Japanese market. It kept the wet clutch and preload-only suspension of the standard model.
